Having already demonstrated that Jesus is the long awaited Son of David, Son of Abraham who re-establishes humanity's identity as God's faithful child, Matthew now has Jesus as the new Moses, delivering the fulfilment of the Law & Prophets. Jesus was always where the Old Testament would lead.

Matthew starts by placing Jesus in the Jewish story. He is the Son of David who will establish God's kingdom and save his people. He is also the son of Abraham through whom God will bless all families on earth.

An introduction to the series. Setting the scene for how Matthew tries to convince the Jews that Jesus is their long awaited Messiah, the one who fulfils the promises the Lord has made them about a coming saviour who would establish the Kingdom of God. He also says, "Get used to different!"

Most are aware of aspects of Adam & Eve's story and what happened in Eden, but what exactly did happen and what was the result for humanity? After all, it was written to explain why we are the way we are. We take a brief look at two very different interpretations which lead to differing views of humanity's condition and evoke different responses from us. Colin suggests one view is much healthier for us than the other.

The story begins with the creation of heaven and earth. Even here the heart of God is being revealed if we look carefully. The first chapter is beautifully structured with repeating patterns. So when we see a break in the pattern, or an anomaly, we need to take a closer look. The darkness and Day 2 are not declared good, whilst everything else is. They reveal God's heart for humanity to mature and his longing to dwell with us.

God is faithful, even when we are not. That is great news! Colin delves into the stories of Abram & Sarai, Hosea and Jesus to demonstrate that faithfulness was the first thing God wanted to teach humanity about himself, even when we behave terribly, he remains faithful, even to death!

The truth is, the only thing we can control is ourself... Even God is not in control of everything, but glories in being self-controlled, controlling himself! Guy helps us understand that and inspires us to take that seriously, to imitate God, and grow in our ability to be self-controlled.

Tim reminds us of the priority of kindness in the heart of God. He says, "Go and learn what this means, I desire lovingkindness rather than sacrifice". He pulls out scripture after scripture to firmly establish kindness as something we all need to grow in and be transformed by... after all, it is the kindness of God that leads to repentance!

God is patient and it is something he considers to be glorious about himself! Colin practically demonstrates patience as he climbs out of a cloudy valley up into the sunlit views of a cloud inversion. Aptly demonstrating one aspect of faithfulness, continuing to do the right thing even when life is not clear. It is truly wonderful to know that God is patient with us, patient with you. Let him fill you with his mighty power so you can demonstrate patience with joy!

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Refresh Centre (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:30am.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits from 10.15am, before the service begins. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

Accessibility:  There is wheelchair access, disabled toilet and baby-changing facilities.

Our Service

The meeting begins at 10.30am with a warm welcome from one of our team members. Then follows a time of sung worship, led by our musicians. We typically have 3 to 5 songs lasting approximately 20 minutes. Sometimes a person might pray out loud or read a small passage from the bible. Sometimes people share things that they believe God is saying to the whole church family. This might seem strange the first time you hear it but it’s all part of our connecting with God. We then share news and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church. One of our leaders will then give a sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.

What about my kids?

All children of any age are welcome to join our Sunday meetings.  Once a month we have 'Refreshers' a Sunday club for primary aged children to have fun games, craft and bible stories.

Getting Connected

Small Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out Small Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.
