What we Believe

images-heart-shape

Jesus is refreshing! That is our experience and hence our name. When we make space for him in our lives, we find he accepts us as we are and takes us on a breathtaking discipleship journey. In him we have found true freedom from everything that might hold us back or keep us small. He helps us know that God is love, that he is for us and that his desire is to dwell with us and to help us live the most abundant lives!

We simply desire to follow Jesus and live as beloved children of God.  To live out our Christian faith as effectively as possible in the love of God through his empowering Spirit. We delight to share our joy with those who have not yet heard or experienced the good news about the kingdom that's coming.

The good news about Jesus Christ has to be shared, it can't be contained. We recognise that learning to live and love as a child of God takes time and practice, so we equip one another in our faith journeys and help one another to live out our faith in the world.

We follow the ancient Christian Creeds as the core of our faith (The Nicene Creed, The Apostle's Creed). Here are some more theological thoughts we hold dear, we believe in…
  • The one true God who lives eternally in three persons—the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit.

  • A relational God, who is all powerful, yet refuses to control. Who is present everywhere, yet waits to be invited into our lives.

  • A Jesus-shaped God. He is the exact representation of the Father, who only said what he heard from his Father and did what he saw his Father doing.

  • The divine inspiration and authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures, which are given that we might recognise God and understand his purposes for creation, that we might develop a relationship with him and work with him to bring out his glory in creation.

  • The dignity of all people, made in the image of God, regardless of age, race or gender, to love, be holy and care for creation, yet lost and fearful, often falling short, not understanding who we are or why we are here.

  • The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ—born of the virgin Mary; fully divine and fully human, yet without sin, never falling short. He represented God perfectly and modelled how to live as a beloved and faithful child of God.

  • The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying for us and for all of creation, paying the price to free us all from sin, to defeat evil, and to reconcile us back to God.

  • The bodily resurrection of Jesus, the first fruits of our resurrection; his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world.

  • Eternal life. The quality of life that we shall experience in eternity, glorious freedom, inexpressible joy and a love that surpasses knowledge. We enter into that life through faith in Jesus and we can begin to enter it even before we die!

  • The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who helps us to be born again and to live with God in holy communion. He helps us know God through Jesus and thus transforms us from glory to glory. He leads us in repentance, renewing our minds, unites us with Christ, and empowers us to live fruitfully for God.

  • The Church, the body of Christ, both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers—given life by the Spirit and endowed with the Spirit's gifts to glorify God and proclaim the good news, promoting justice and love.

  • The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, to gather all things in heaven and on earth in himself, that there might be no more darkness, or lostness, and no more separation, but endless joyful communion between God and humanity.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those planning a visit, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

We meet at the Refresh Centre (details here) for our Sunday Service starting at 10:30am.

We serve tea, coffee and biscuits from 10.15am, before the service begins. It is a great way to meet people, or simply take time to find your bearings. All refreshments are free.

Accessibility:  There is wheelchair access, disabled toilet and baby-changing facilities.

Our Service

The meeting begins at 10.30am with a warm welcome from one of our team members. Then follows a time of sung worship, led by our musicians. We typically have 3 to 5 songs lasting approximately 20 minutes. Sometimes a person might pray out loud or read a small passage from the bible. Sometimes people share things that they believe God is saying to the whole church family. This might seem strange the first time you hear it but it’s all part of our connecting with God. We then share news and notices, usually about what’s going on in the life of the church. One of our leaders will then give a sermon that is bible based and that we can apply to our everyday life. Sometimes there is an opportunity to receive prayer at the end of the service.

What about my kids?

All children of any age are welcome to join our Sunday meetings.  Once a month we have 'Refreshers' a Sunday club for primary aged children to have fun games, craft and bible stories.

Getting Connected

Small Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have a variety of groups that meet throughout the week, some afternoons and some evenings. Check out Small Groups and see if there’s one that you could join, or we can put you in touch with a small group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.
